NINH Collection is for the modest and confident, the intellectual and cultured, the passionate and open-minded – a modern-day Renaissance man. Well-groomed and open-minded, has proper etiquette and respects others – the quintessential gentleman.

Designer NINH NGUYEN was born and raised in Paris, France, grew up in Texas where he studied medicine and psychology, and currently resides and works from his studio in NYC. He debuted his first collection during New York Fashion Week in February of 2011 [image above], and ever since, has traveled around the nation showcasing his collection in many fashion shows and events.

He has worked with countless photographers (Cecilie Harris, Duc Nguyen, Jon Malinowski, Huy Khiem, just to name a few), stylists, models and make-up artists on many Fashion editorials. Pictures of their work with NINH Collection shown below [clockwise from top left].

Luxe Menswear Is Doing Laps Around Women's Fashion

The global luxury menswear field is (finally) marketing media specifically to men, and new numbers show it’s with good reason. A study from consultants at Bain & Co. concluded that the field is growing at a rate of about 14% a year — in comparison, luxury women’s fashion is expanding only around 8% annually.

So why the discrepancy? First and foremost, China’s luxury market is on a speedy rise, and male customers make up about 75% of that consumer base. Second, of course, is the fact that there’s more room for growth. Menswear has some catching up to do when it comes to the robust women’s luxury market.

That said, the male taste for luxury is in no way limited to China — the venerable French department store Printemps just added a specialized corner to showcase men’s luxury accessories, and Hermès reports that sales at its menswear-only New York outpost are beating the averages (which are still good) at its U.S. stores overall.

So as the men’s side of the global luxury economy expands on the whole, will the business take on some of the aspects previously limited to women’s wear? Will we see a higher profile men’s fashion week? What about guys duking it out at bi-annual sample sales? No matter the course, we’re interested to see what direction an increased male taste for high-end style winds up taking.

Marni’s collection for H&M has all the freedom and experimentation for which the label is renowned, with all-over prints in strong colors intended to be worn together in layers that both match and clash. The silhouettes are all Marni staples, with full pleated skirts, dresses, cropped pants and jacquard knits; fabrics range from silk to crisp cotton poplin. WWD reports today that the fashion industry’s big, untapped audience for social media is its male customer base. Loyal to their favorite brands, interested in the history of the products they buy, and more willing to shop online than one might think, it’s time for retailers to reach out to men via both their social media and editorial channels.

Of course, some men’s brands have gotten on the bandwagon early. Who are the labels and retailers leading the way?

Coach’s Facebook page for its male audience focuses on product knowledge.

1. Coach: Coach launched a separate Facebook page for its men’s division. Granted, it has just under 14,000 fans while the women’s page has around 2 million, but it only launched five months ago. As they grow their male online fan base, the label’s busy making educational inroads with informative posts on Coach’s product history and quality.

Park & Bond offers fully shoppable, totally useful editorial content.

2. Park & Bond: Gilt Groupe’s full-priced men’s site, launched with GQ, came right out of the gate offering useful editorial content. In between blue jeans and gingham buttondowns, Park & Bond also provides how-tos on topics like folding pocket squares and dressing for dinner with one’s in-laws.

3. Ermenegildo Zegna: Using tech-heavy tactics, luxury men’s clothier Ermenegildo Zegna launched a 3D online store over the summer. Besides its inherent video game quality, the site is appealing for its seamless integration of retail and original video content.

Mr Porter, Net-a-Porter’s menswear site, provides niche editorial content integrated with its retail component.

4. Mr Porter: Net-a-Porter’s separate men’s site came into being through every social media and editorial channel possible. Before even launching, Mr Porter offered potential shoppers access to benefits as “founding members,” through email, Facebook, and Twitter. When Mr Porter finally launched, with an audience of 70,000 of those founding members, they offered extensive editorial content in conjunction with their upscale menswear.

Unlike much of its competition, Valet offered editorial content first and added a retail component later.

5. Valet: If Valet looks more like an online magazine than a retailer, well, that’s because it is. But the men’s site, which offers style, grooming, and lifestyle editorials, began making much of its content shoppable after its audience demanded it. Now Valet aggregates product picks from an array of online retailers, and alerts its readership to sales and physical store launches.

Block Headwear was created by Cuban-born designer Ciomi McCabe who grew up in the hat business. She developed her craft at Kangol where her father was CFO. Having the desire to start her own headwear brand, Ciomi launched Block Headwear in May 2000 out of NYC where she and the company are based. In May 2006, Concept One Accessories acquired Block where Ciomi remains as the head designer and creative director of the brand.

The Brand
The brand name, Block, pays homage to the centuries old art of hat making where material is molded around a piece of wood - a "Block" - to give a hat its shape.

5 Designers Collaborating With Beauty Instead of Fast Fashion

Some designers refuse to collaborate at all. Others partner up with every fashion-related endeavor under the sun. But some fashion industry denizens are taking an out-of-the-box approach to creative partnerships, bringing their style know-how to the beauty industry instead of, say, the realm of fast fashion. Design for your wardrobe, design for your face — the correlation makes sense. Let’s take a look at five fashion industry figures who’ve made the leap into beauty:

Lipsticks from Tom Ford Beauty, a line that grew out of a collaboration with Estée Lauder.

1. Tom Ford for Estée Lauder: With his original 2005 Estée Lauder collaboration, the former Gucci creative director kicked off a small wave of designer-beauty brand partnerships. Tom Ford for Estée Lauder was short-lived, however, and intentionally so — the beauty giant turned the collection into a permanent, standalone Tom Ford beauty line in 2006.

2. Gareth Pugh for MAC: Pugh, the fashion-forward Lady Gaga designer favorite, admits that even he uses MAC Cosmetics, so a partnership with the beauty brand seems natural. Not that there’s anything natural-looking about the upcoming 18-piece collection — Pugh’s dark and stormy aesthetic has been translated into an array of dark pigments and angular packaging. The limited-edition line will be available from November 23 to December 23.

3. Ksubi for Kiehl’s: Old-school American beauty company Kiehl’s has made it a habit to shake up their packaging on a yearly basis with limited edition styles from various fashion labels. This year, they’re offering a look from denim mainstay Ksubi. (Past years have included Sass & Bide and swimwear line Zimmermann.)

Karl Lagerfeld’s new mini-collection for Sephora also includes…a Karl doll.

4. Karl Lagerfeld for Sephora: Okay, so Lagerfeld actually collaborates extensively, but his latest endeavor is too good to leave off this list. The designer’s new line for Sephora includes an eye palette and nail polish, and totally inexplicably, a Karl lookalike doll. We’re going to have to get this mailed home from friends abroad — the range is only available at physical outposts of Sephora in Europe and Singapore.

5. Chris Benz for Lancôme: The up-and-coming designer and CFDA award-winner has yet to dip a toe into the world of fast fashion. However, he’s already partnered twice with the venerable Parisian beauty brand Lancôme, first on a single lipstick and then on a complete beauty product-filled summer tote. Both of these limited editions have come and gone, so we’re holding out for a new Benz-Lancôme mash-up in the near future.

Freewaters established ProjectFreewaters.org – their direct-cause initiative dedicated to providing safe drinking water to communities in need around the world. The mission is simple: with every pair of Freewaters sold, funds are allocated for the digging of freshwater wells around the world – the equivalent of clean drinking water for one individual for one entire year.

To date, ProjectFreewaters.org has established five freshwater wells in western Kenya that are supplying clean drinking water to thousands of people in these rural communities. “We believe access to clean water is a basic human right. With over 3,300,000 people dying every year from dirty water and a lack of proper hygiene, we felt compelled to get involved —and what better way then by creating great footwear,” says Brand Director Eli Marmar.

This hot drink combo set to sweep the nation will let guys hold on to that pilsner glass (and their dignity) while sipping a drink that has little bit of a kick to it.

And if you prefer your cocktails and beer separate, Sanctuaria in St. Louis, MO has begun serving their cocktails on tap! That’s right, when you walk up to the bar and ask what’s on draught, the bartender will kindly inform you that they are serving the UnCommon Ground, a cocktail featuring Camus VS Cognac, directly from a tap. As the great Bob Dylan once said, “The times they are-a-changin’.”

But whenever you’re ready to spike your beer, give these awesome beer cocktails a “shot”:

Brew Mule:
1.5 oz. Russian Standard Vodka
0.5 oz. Lemon Juice
0.5 oz. Simple Syrup
2 Pieces Orange
2 oz. ginger ale
2 oz. Belgian White Beer
Muddle two pieces of orange with simple syrup. Add Russian Standard and lemon juice. Shake over ice and pour into a Copper Mug. Top with ginger ale and beer. Garnish with fresh cinnamon.

Porch Swing:
1.5 oz. Russian Standard Vodka
10 oz. Pilsner
2 oz. Fresh Sweet & Sour Mix
Sea Salt
Rim 1/2 of a pilsner glass with sea salt and fill with ice. Add vodka and sour and stir vigorously with a bar spoon. Slowly pour in the beer and enjoy!

Burnt Oranges:
1.5 oz Flor de Caña Rum
0.5 oz Blood Orange Puree
0.5 oz Lemon Juice
Top with Guinness Beer
Stir all ingredients in a pilsner glass with crushed ice and top with Guinness Beer and an orange wheel.

The Spicy Irishman:
1.5 oz Lucid Absinthe
1 oz Russian Standard Vodka
¼ oz Siracha Hot Sauce
1 oz Killian’s Irish Red Beer
Stir all ingredients in a pilsner glass with ice and top with Killian’s Irish Red Beer. Lemon peel optional.
